Please come and join your fellow club members for a day trip to the Tierkloof 4×4 Trail.   www.tierkloof4x4.com

It has been two years since we last did the Tierkloof route, so we thought it a good idea to re-visit this venue for a fun day out near Rawsonville. The venue is approximately 1 hours’ drive from Cape Town along the N1.
This will be a day outing only (meet the Saturday morning, do the route and return home).

About the route:
The route starts off with steep rocky ascents (especially the first 500 metres). This becomes a bit easier after the initial climbs with some technical challenges every now and then to remind you that you are on a 4×4 route.

The route is rocky but fortunately with no sharp edges, so tyres should not get damaged if you choose your approach lines and tyre pressures wisely.

Along the route you will be rewarded with a spectacular view at a height of about 780 meters overlooking the Brandvlei dam and Worcester. Also along the way is a cave and the Wolves Den.
It is a circular route and there is always something new to see.

The initial decent is fairly steep but can be done with no damage to vehicle or tyres – correct tyre pressure is important.
The last section offers another challenge with a sandy hill to cross.

The total route is about 12 km and one would expect to complete it in about 2 ½ hours if you don’t stop too much to admire the spectacular views. One should plan for a bit longer, as a larger group will take a bit longer and one might want to spend a bit more time on the dry river bed play area for the big power multi locker boys with an easier bail out route for the rest of us. After that there is a sandy hill to negotiate, which could take a while.

The owners, Willem and Mariana grade the route as a 3 ½. My grading – The overall grading of the route is 3.5 with the occasional level 4 obstacle (Frans Stander).

Everyone must be totally self-sufficient for the duration of this trip. Bring something to snack on at the view point.

Only 4×4 vehicles with low range capabilities can be catered for.
A diff lock will be an advantage but not a requirement.

In order to ensure a spot and assist with logistical arrangements please RSVP by Wednesday the 20th June 2018 via email to outings@4wd-wc.co.za and please cc standerf@mweb.co.za

We will meet at the new Shell Ultra City before Worcester along the N1 at 09h30 Saturday morning and travel in a convoy to Tierkloof 4×4.
At arrival we will have a drivers briefing, sign the attendance register and prepare vehicles for the route.
We will stop at the first or second lookout point (depending on progress) for a brunch break.
After that we will follow the return route. This route will be a scenic drive with a few obstacles that will test your skills.
It is anticipated that the Trail will be completed by 14h00 where after each will leave Tierkloof at your own leisure.
