Long Weekend Outing to Witsand @ Witsand
Sep 22 – Sep 24 all-day

Join your fellow club members for an outing to Witsand and do a nice sand route, the Westfield 4×4 route.

Witsand is situated on the east bank of Breede River with Infanta on the other side of the river.
We will be camping at the Witsand municipal camping grounds for two nights and use it as our base for the weekend. Here we will be having our communal braais and fun filled evenings.
There are two camp sites in Witsand, one on the sea front and one a bit further back but still in walking distance of the sea. We will be staying at the one further back as it is more protected from the wind.
The camp site is grassed and each has an electrical point as well as shared water taps with safe drinking water. Unfortunately, there are not too many trees. There are two ablution facilities, a big one in the centre of the camp site and a smaller one at the back. Both ablutions are basic but very clean with plenty of hot water.
Please make sure that you are self-sufficient for the weekend with eat and drink. There is a shop in town, if you forgot to bring something from home.

Westfield 4×4 Route:
This is a route with dunes and of course lots of sand. It is a guided route so hopefully we won’t get lost. The route is situated about 3 km outside Witsand and stretches all the way down to the sea. The first part of the route is just basic sand driving, but then the fun starts with some nice big dunes and a place called the amphitheatre where we will to see whether everyone will make it to the top.
The route is about 8km long but that depends on the guide on the day, sometimes longer depending on time. There are no toilet facilities on the route.

Year End Function 2018 – Leeuwenboschfontein @ Leeuwenboschfontein Guest Farm
Nov 9 – Nov 11 all-day

Please come and join your club for the 2018 Year End Function at Leeuwenboschfontein.

After evaluating different venues, the committee has decided on Leeuwenboschfontein for the 2018 Year End Function. This venue is about two hours’ drive from Cape Town and we wish to get as many members possible to attend and celebrate another successful year of our club. As in the past, this event will be partially sponsored by the club.
Leeuwenboschfontein is set in a valley that speaks to your senses, against the unique landscapes of succulents and Renosterbos, bordered by breath-taking mountains of the Klein Karoo.

CAMPING AND OTHER ACCOMMODATION:

There is an attractive camp site and a variety of other accommodation available for those who don’t feel like pitching a tent. The owners have taken great care not to over commercialize the facilities, creating a welcoming farm style atmosphere. The extensive property offers a variety of activities. It is an ideal destination for hikers, campers, mountain bikers, 4×4 touring groups, stargazers, freshwater fishermen, birdwatchers and weekenders.
The camp site is situated under willow trees next to a dam. Each individual campsite is equipped with water, electricity and a light point as well as a work surface/table. Other facilities include hot water, cloakrooms, toilets, a bathroom with a bath and shower and a camping kitchen. Please visit the website for more information regarding other accommodation (please note that the prices on the website are outdated).

4×4 TRAIL:

The 20 km mountain trail starts at the main house from where it winds through typical renosterveld, descending through some ditches and climbing over small inclines. This section is somewhat technical with some low-range climbing along a well maintained track and reaching the summit at 1,400 meter above sea level. At the highest part of the trail a special vantage point awaits you. Enjoy 360 Degree views from within this shelter, surrounded by the luxury of a built-in working surface for preparing a meal, sufficient seating and a cosy central fire place.
From there the road descends down the mountain to complete the circular route. Two very steep declines await you on this section of the trail. The majority of the trail is a 3 rating, with some obstacles hovering around the 4 mark. The 4×4 trail has earned several accolades as well as being one of Go! Drive Out’s Top Ten Trails.

“The most difficult section of the trail is not named Lion’s Balls for nothing. Careful navigation, a good line and tons of guts will see you through, but like playing with the proverbial lion’s crown jewels, it needs to be tackles with finesse.” – Drive Out
